Our Story
The history of Schaffner Maintenance reads like the typical American success story. What started out as a way to make a few extra bucks in the evening turned out to be a full time operation that is growing everyday.
Dave started working in the maintenance and repair field while still in high school. He worked at various institutions including a rehab center for mentally handicapped children, to a nursing home, to a college, to a private estate, and to several places in between.
In 1989, he took a position with the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania at the Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve as the Lands and Facilities Manager. There he was in charge of maintaining a state-of-the-art and energy-efficient education center, a converted farmhouse office and giftshop, an auditorium, 135 acres, and five miles of hiking trails. He hadn't been at Beechwood Farms for very long when people began to ask him to perform a few odd jobs at their homes. The more people that learned of these odd jobs, the more Dave was asked to come to other houses. This eventually led to his resigning from his position at Beechwood, and he decided to turn his maintenance skills into a full-time job.
Schaffner Maintenance eventually grew too big for the home office and garage, and they moved into their new office on Saxonburg Blvd. We currently have a full staff of technicians.
Although Schaffner Maintenance has circulated a few direct mail advertisements, most of their growth is due to a high quality of work and good, solid, references. Schaffner Maintenance lives and dies by word of mouth, and although at times it may not be physically possible to achieve a particular customer's intentions, we strive hard to devise alternate solutions and 100% customer satisfaction.
